History of our Glassworks

History

So you probably heard in your live the collocation “Bohemian Crystal”, right? No surprise, the centuries-long history of glass making in our land has developed a craftsmanship and many techniques that enables us to produce the finest and highest quality glassware of any kind in beautiful design. By the way the oldest archaeological excavations of glass-making sites in the region date to around 1250 and are located in the Lusatian Mountains in northern part of country.

Today

These days, Bohemian Glass is very popular among tourists as a souvenir to take back home for a decoration, to use for special moments or as a very unique gift to someone 😍

We’re suspecting that the main idea of glass making back in a medieval times was simply to have something fancy to drink a beer from πŸ˜… but then everything went to far and they started pushing their skills and limits 😁

Glassworks

The most famous Czech glass producers are the “Moser” – considered the most luxurious Czech brand, “RΓΌckl” and “Crystalex“.

Moser is part of our day trip to Karlovy Vary while RΓΌckl can be visited on a transfer from Prague to Munich or vice versa πŸ˜‰

Czech Republic – The country of beer…

Yes… it wasn’t really difficult to find a topic for our first blog post πŸ™‚

History

Czech Republic, Czechia or even historically known as Bohemia, all three names has been always a synonym for a best quality beer production since the medieval times. The oldest documented brewery established on our territory was the one at Prague’s Brevnov Monastery in 993 – unsurprisingly by its monks – the Benedictines. Since very beginning, there has been always a strong competition between Czechs and Germans in who’s beer is better, and even though there was a lot of cooperation, joint projects, science and new discoveries over the centuries, we – as a Czechs, would always bet our lives that our beer is simply the clear winner πŸ˜…πŸ‘

Today

We’re producing annually over 2 million litres of beer, which is giving us 8th position in Europe. We cannot really compete with a bigger countries like Germany, UK, France or Poland in volume – since we are mid sized land with population of 11 million people, but where we really shine is the consumption of beer per capita πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜…In this activity, we’re leading the world… and actually by far 😁 What it brings besides other is the enormous number of local breweries (we have over 500), which makes the competition very strong, so quality of beer is the highest and price remains low. It is actually true that in many pubs or restaurants throughout the country, you will pay less for a half liter of beer than for a half liter of bottled water – insane, right? πŸ™ˆ

Main Ingredient

It is also worth to mention that hops – the main ingredient giving beer its bitterness found a paradise to live in Czech Republic 😁 Our climate zone together with a perfect content of our soil is giving us the advantage to grow and cultivate some of top noble varieties of hops and export globally – that’s why we call it a green gold πŸ’š Fine example is the variety “SAAZ” grown in our most famous hops area around the town of Zatec, which is located approximately 50 kilometres northwest from Prague.
