About this Tour

Karlovy Vary and its unique springs were discovered by the famous Czech King and the Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV in the 14th century while hunting a deer in the neighbouring forest. A spa town has developed here over the centuries whose fame has surpassed the borders of Bohemia and Karlovy Vary become synonymic with charm and social standing. It welcomed such a figures like Johann W. Goethe, Giacomo Casanova, Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang A. Mozart and many others along with dozens of heads of many states. Over half of century now, it is hosting many movie stars every year, thanks to its famous international film festival in July.

What Karlovy Vary is really about is to slow down, relax and enjoy its fantastic atmosphere. While walking the heart of town, you’ll have many opportunities to taste some of the thirteen unique mineral hot springs available – so well known for its beneficial effects on the whole digestion system. You can also try some of the original spa wafers or the local traditional herb liqueur named “Becherovka” and learn some of its history.

Before you’ll hit the town with all its treasures, our guide will take you to the world-famous “Moser Glassworks” where you can not only shop for some nice and unique souvenirs but also attend a short tour to see how every piece of art is made from scratch.

After meeting you up at 9am at your hotel in Prague, we’ll be driving west for about 1.5 hours until we reach the famous town Karlovy Vary. It is optional, but we do recommend start with a visit of the Moser Glass factory and take the 30 minutes tour where you’ll experience a fantastic skills of local glass makers and you’ll get an idea how Bohemian Crystal is made.

Once in Karlovy Vary town centre, we’ll start our walking tour of this amazing place, so our guide will take you through the most beautiful parts of it, while giving you a lot of information from the history at the same time. We’ll be passing by Elizabeth Spa, Hotel Thermal – main site of the film festival, Park Colonnade where you can taste your first cup of the natural hot spring, continuing through the fascinating Mill Colonnade (more springs available), Market Colonnade and to the Hot Spring Colonnade featuring a 12metre (39,4 feet) geyser with hottest spring of temperature 73C (163,4F).

Passing many local shops and restaurants, we’ll be finishing our walking tour at the Grandhotel Pupp – site from James Bond Casino Royale 😉 but for more adventurous of you, we can still deliver you up to the Diana Observation Tower via a funicular for a perfect view of the whole town.

You will have 2-3 hours of free time just for yourself now, so you can have nice & delicious lunch at one of local restaurants (we’ll be happy to give you a recommendation) as well as you can do a little shopping later for some unique local goodies and simply relax – that’s what Karlovy Vary is about 😉 We will depart at around 4:30pm, so you will be back to your hotel in Prague at around 6pm… we believe happy and full of remarkable memories 😉

Please note that we are very flexible as with every of our tours. This is just the suggested itinerary from our side and all the sites listed are pretty optional, so for example if you don’t want to visit the Moser Glas factory… it is absolutely fine 😉 Or maybe you’re not interested in a coffee stop or you would like to have something else for your lunch… fine too 😉 …we have always plan B, C or D in our pocket 🙂 You might be also interested to see some sites not mentioned here which is also fine as this is your day, you are on a private tour and we will always do our best to accommodate all your wishes – unless they’re unrealistic 🙂
